BJP 2008/09 - Journal Darling Dolls - April 2009

Here, at long last, is piece no. eight of the BJP year 2008/09. It is the Journal Darling Doll that was intended for April 2009, the month in which Easter was celebrated that year. Imagine, the poor thing has been lying around for FOUR years, unassembled, with some details still missing (beading around both legs and part of one arm, hair, banner, stuffing). Apart from that she had an old, tired, cheerless face which I now disliked. I left it on, but put the child's face on top.

She would have been delayed anyway, even if I had finished her during that BJP period. Those dolls, while I enjoyed making them, were very work-intensive and time-consuming, so that I gradually got behind and lost momentum. (There will be no pieces 9 – 12/BJP 2008/09.)

 APRY says:

Yes, I know, I'm coming late -
Sabine's fault, without debate!
But does she say that she is sorry?
No, she just says: "Please don't worry,
you haven't been delayed forever.
Late is better yet than never."

I am APRY, pleased to meet you.
With my looks I hope to treat you
to a pleasant blog-post view.
A journal always should be true
to life and what it holds for us.
That's why I was constructed thus:
My front looks cheerful, while my back
mostly shows the colour black.
I am afraid we'll never know
why precisely this is so.
Sabine says: "I feel so rotten,
because by now I have forgotten."

I am leaving the poem as it is, although, in fact, the last four lines do not apply any more: I just rediscovered a short note which brought back to me the memory of that black month, April 2009. I still remember each one of the events, of course, but had forgotten that they all occurred during that particular month: 1) My daughter's chronic illness took yet another turn for the worse; 2) I had to have my beloved tomcat put to sleep, because his health had reached a state where he was suffering too much; 3) my nerves gave, so that one day I did not concentrate properly when machine sewing, and the needle went straight through my right thumb. All that explains the black heart and other black beads on the doll's back.

But let me finish on a more optimistic note: This year, 2013, we celebrate Easter at the end of March, meaning that APRY appears on the blog at the appropriate time, despite the four years' delay. HAPPY EASTER to all of you, and remember: If you eat an apple first thing on Easter Sunday morning (i.e. before all those easter eggs and before breakfast), you will stay healthy for the entire following year. Isn't that great?

BJP 2013 - Here comes the Sun - March

By now it seems clear that this year I am not so much a journaler, but rather a storyteller. So, here goes - this is my March story:

                                         Interview with a Chimney Sweep

                                                   Chimney Sweep with sooty face,
what are you doing out in space?
                                                   „Well, I have a job to do.
That is why I'm walking through
                                                   this deserted, soundless quarter,
wishing that I had a porter,
or – better yet – two patient mules,
one for me, one for my tools.
I've trudged along the Milky Way
for the best part of this day.
On this road you find no cars,
                                                   but myriads of shooting stars.“

So, what exactly is your job?
„Do you see that ugly blob
                                                  marring our sun's bright sheen?
That is what I have to clean
                                                  and polish over very fast
to restore the sun's hot blast.“
Oh Chimney Sweep, I do now see:
This job makes you a VIP!

                                                              Chimney Sweep

                                                                  On the Milky Way

BJP 2010 - Heartsquares

Here is the third Heartsquare 2010 coming along, with a delay of only three years. :)

The foundation fabric, 1.1/2" square ...

... and the finished end product.

Enjoy and have a nice day.
